"1996" was released in 1996 and continues to be a long-selling album. This album, which can be called a best-of, consists of self-cover songs arranged for a trio of piano, violin, and cello, a minimal yet richly expressive ensemble, featuring Ryuichi Sakamoto's representative songs, both new and old, from that time. It breathed new life into existing songs and was highly acclaimed as a masterpiece for its skillful arrangements and fulfilling performances.

A remastered version of this work was released overseas last year. This rare album, which is difficult to obtain in Japan, is being imported urgently to commemorate the release of "THREE"! "Self Portrait," which was not included in "1996," is also included.
